Just don't do the Create Your Taste thing. Just don't. It's nothing but a tremendous clusterfck and you'll end up confused and with sh*t you didn't order. It's a mess. Really. I came back today because I wanted to give it an honest shot. And my wife was curious about the process. Usually I'm more patient when she's around so we decided to come here for lunch. Big mistake. Really. Huge. We stood next to one another on two separate kiosks, building our respective burgers. Once complete, we paid grabbed our pager do-hicky and I went to the counter to get my cup for my drink. She was confused at that point as to whether or not she ended up with two orders of fries or only one. And she didn't understand that she had to get her cup at the counter. Five minutes later a girl came up to my table. "Did you want meat on your burger?" Huh? "Well it didn't select it. So I wanted to make sure." WTF? Suddenly my wife walks up and says, "They had to flag me down and ask me if I wanted meat on my burger." Jesus. Remember, folks. We used two separate kiosks and did this thing independently. It made the same error on both of our orders. So either we're both too stupid to order burgers on our burgers, or there's something wrong with the system. Yeah. So when our food finally arrived, sure enough somehow she got an extra order of fries (which she paid for). And my burger was a mess. I didn't understand why, but it tasted terrible. Turns out my friend the kiosk automatically selected sweet barbecue AND Big Mac sauce for me, when all I wanted was the latter. I discovered this after looking at the grill slip that accompanied my order. Gross. To say I didn't like the combo would be an understatement. It was disgusting. I went up to the counter and told the girl that I didn't ask for sweet bbq sauce, but she got defensive and made some excuse about me not confirming it on screen when it came up. Whatever. I didn't even care at that point, I just wanted to let them know that I didn't select it. Didn't want it. Didn't like it. My wife actually liked her burger, but told me she never wanted to go through that experience again. Neither do I.

I feel kind of strange reviewing a McDonalds. I have a strict no-chain restaurant policy, but this one is a little different. It is a cool concept and I think it would be somewhat well-received in other areas. You can go in and order your food using a touch-screen machine that allows you to completely customize your meal by adding specialty ingredients and sauces. The burgers and other food are made to order and someone brings the food out to you in their swanky dining room. My food was much better than a typical McDonalds drive-thru order and if my kid really wanted McDonalds, I'd be happy to take her to this one so that I could get some decent food. However, it is still McDonald's food and because this is the only one of these that I know of - it isn't something I would go out of my way to get to. It isn't any different that a Smashburger, Tom & Eddies or other gourmet burger place. The price is a little lower, but it is ultimately the same product. I like that McDonalds is making a change, but I don't feel like it is 5-star worthy. Just an FYI - you can't get the better food in the drive-thru, so if you are interested in this you do have to go into the restaurant to eat.

This restaurant was opened on Dec 3, 2014. It is the first McDonald's in Illinois to have a "Create Your Taste" option. This McD's is super modern and has two large touch screen kiosks for the Create Your Taste. The kiosks allow you to order your own unique burger by selecting your own toppings and essentially creating your own burger. Note you can also create your own burger at the cashier counter by telling them what you want on it. There are brochures there to let you know what toppings are available. All toppings except an extra burger patty and bacon ($1) are unlimited and included in the fixed price which I think is $4.79, or if you want to make it a meal with fries and a drink, it is around $7.79. You can add as many slices and varieties of cheese or even put 3x the guacamole (if you get guac, I would recommend doing 3x) on it. Some other nice, different toppings you can get include tortilla chips, spicy mayo, grilled mushrooms, and grilled onions. Oh and for the bun, I would suggest the Artisan roll. Anyway, after you order your burger, you pay at the kiosk or you can choose to pay/order at the normal cashier station. Then you take a pager and put the pager on your table. The pager detects the chip underneath your table (look under your table!) and that is how the McD employees know where to bring you your food. YES, they bring the food to you! You can also ask for any sauce on the side and they will bring it to you too. The burger is delivered to you with the top bun off so you can see all of the toppings and how big your burger is! The fries come in a cute little basket. Overall, this place is awesome! The burgers are seared instead of how they are usually cooked so it's like a "real" burger now, as opposed to a fast food burger. Yum! The employees are all really nice and willing to help you with your order!

Can I say I had the McDonald's experience of a lifetime here? I can? Aw yassssssssssss. This particular restaurant featured the new "Create Your Taste" format, so you get to order from a space aged kiosk and you have the opportunity to customize your burger! I don't want to sound like a cheeseball, but smell this gouda: it was a total revolution of the McD experience. Toppings included things like guacamole, jalapenos, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, and as many delightful sauces as you can imagine. Garlic aioli, anyone? Spicy mayo? Side note: I have a crippling addiction to fattening sauce. The fat sauce is boss. Let's not forget the other stuff - upgraded buns, cheese options, and if you just want like 40 McNugs, you can order those too. I do think I could eat 40 nugs, just in case you were wondering. The staff was amazing there too. They had crew members stationed at the kiosks in case you had any questions. When our food was ready, crew members also brought out our food in metal baskets, including little fryer shaped baskets with our fries. Loved it! We also had the manager come out and ask if we wanted to try any additional sauces for our food. Yes please! It was a really pleasant experience. Now can I tell you about the icing on the cake? Benny the Bull was there. No jokes. He made a special appearance. He harassed the kids, he threw buns out the drive thru window, he is my all time new favorite mascot. Or maybe my first favorite mascot? I'm not really into...how do you say it? The sports? Touchdown!

They moved the McDonalds East on Ogden to a new building. New tables, new equipment, and same poor attitude in service. It's clean, if they get around to it. Don't bother asking..they'll take the request as if you are accusing them of failure. Very uncomfortable place to dine in. Maybe they should consider focusing on the drive-through and close the inside to public. It would be less revealing. I can't believe I'm reviewing the McDonald's. On a positive note there is a better Mickey D's on Ogden in Fairview.
